FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question before booking? Here are answers to some of the most common questions about working with Ally Lou Photography.

Booking & Sessions

How do I book a photography session?

You can book a session using the Book link on the Ally Lou Photography website. If you're unsure which session is right for you or have a special request, you're welcome to contact me before booking.

Booking & Sessions

How far in advance should I book?

Booking as early as possible is recommended, especially for weekends and during busy seasons. However, last-minute availability may occasionally be available, so don't hesitate to ask.

Booking & Sessions

Where are you located?

Ally Lou Photography is based in Southwest Wisconsin and offers photography sessions throughout the surrounding area. If you have a specific location in mind, reach out and we can discuss whether it's a good fit for your session.

Booking & Sessions

Do you travel?

Yes! Travel may be available depending on the location and type of session. Locations outside my normal service area may require an additional travel fee.

Booking & Sessions

How long does a session take?

Session length depends on the type of photography you book. Your booking information will include the expected session length. I always recommend allowing yourself a little extra time so you don't feel rushed.

Preparing for Your Session

What should I wear?

Choose clothing that makes you feel comfortable and confident. Neutral colors, earth tones, soft colors, and simple patterns generally photograph beautifully. Try to avoid large logos, extremely busy patterns, or outfits that compete for attention. For families or groups, coordinating colors usually works better than everyone wearing exactly the same outfit.

Preparing for Your Session

Can you help me decide what to wear?

Absolutely. If you're unsure about an outfit, feel free to ask before your session. I'm happy to help you choose something that will photograph well.

Preparing for Your Session

What should I bring?

Depending on your session, consider a backup outfit, comfortable shoes, a hairbrush or comb, makeup for quick touch-ups, water, and meaningful props or accessories. For children, a favorite small toy, snack, or comfort item can also be helpful.

Preparing for Your Session

I'm awkward in front of the camera. Is that okay?

Absolutely. You don't need to know how to pose. I'll guide you throughout the session with posing, movement, and prompts so you aren't left wondering what to do. My goal is to create photographs that feel natural and still look like you.

Preparing for Your Session

Can I bring someone with me?

In most cases, yes. If having a friend, partner, parent, or other support person with you will make you more comfortable, you're welcome to ask about bringing them.

Families & Children

Do you photograph children and families?

Yes. Family and children's photography can be included depending on the session being booked.

Families & Children

What if my child doesn't cooperate?

That's okay — children aren't expected to behave like professional models. We'll work with their personality, give them time when needed, and focus on creating genuine moments rather than forcing every photograph.

Families & Children

Can I bring my pet?

Pets may be welcome for certain sessions and locations. Please mention your pet when booking so we can make sure the location and session are appropriate.

Weather & Rescheduling

What happens if it rains?

For outdoor sessions, we'll keep an eye on the weather as your session approaches. If rain, storms, extreme temperatures, or unsafe conditions would negatively affect the session, we can discuss rescheduling.

Weather & Rescheduling

What if I need to reschedule?

Contact me as soon as you know you need to change your session. Rescheduling is subject to availability and any applicable booking or retainer policies. Please see the Client Policies & Terms page for additional information.

Weather & Rescheduling

What if I'm running late?

Please contact me as soon as possible. Depending on the schedule that day, a late arrival may shorten your session. Significant delays may require rescheduling.

Your Photos

How are my photos edited?

Every delivered photograph receives professional editing as appropriate for the image. Standard editing may include adjustments to exposure and lighting, color, contrast, cropping, and overall image appearance. My goal is to enhance the photograph while keeping you looking natural.

Your Photos

Do you retouch photos?

Standard editing is included with delivered photographs. More extensive retouching may be available as an additional service depending on what you'd like changed. I prefer natural-looking retouching rather than making people look artificial or overly edited.

Your Photos

Will I receive every photo you take?

No. Part of the photography process is carefully selecting the strongest photographs from your session. Duplicates, test images, missed expressions, out-of-focus images, and photographs that don't meet my quality standards are removed before your final gallery is prepared.

Your Photos

Do you provide RAW or unedited photos?

RAW and unedited files are generally not provided. The editing process is part of the finished work you receive from Ally Lou Photography.

Your Photos

How will I receive my photos?

Your finished photographs will generally be delivered digitally. Specific delivery information and instructions will be provided for your session.

Your Photos

How long will it take to receive my photos?

Turnaround time can vary depending on the type of session, number of photographs, and current workload. You'll receive an estimated turnaround time for your session.

Your Photos

Should I back up my photos?

Yes! Once you receive your final photographs, I strongly recommend downloading them and keeping at least one additional backup. Online galleries and photographer storage should not be treated as permanent personal storage.

Sharing & Printing

Can I post my photos on social media?

Yes! You're welcome to share your delivered photographs on your personal social media accounts. Credit to Ally Lou Photography is always appreciated.

Sharing & Printing

Can I add filters to my photos?

I ask that you avoid filters or major edits that significantly change the appearance of the finished photograph. Your images are carefully edited before delivery.

Sharing & Printing

Can I print my photos?

Personal-use digital images may be printed for your own use unless your specific session agreement says otherwise. Keep in mind that print quality can vary significantly between printing companies.

Privacy & Photo Use

Will my photos automatically be posted online?

No. Your photographs are not automatically considered public simply because you booked a session. Use of client photographs on the Ally Lou Photography website, portfolio, social media, or advertising will depend on the permissions provided for your session.

Privacy & Photo Use

What about photos of my children?

I understand that parents may have additional privacy concerns regarding photographs of their children. Images involving minors will be handled according to the permissions provided by their parent or legal guardian.
